s the temperature drops and the colder weather arrives, you begin to spend more time inside. Some people dread the cooler
Aweather, shorter days and gray skies, then there are those who relish in the crisp air enjoying the feel of a warm sweater and a
mug of hot cocoa warming their hands. Regardless of how you feel about the season, it’s always comforting to take the time to make
some seasonal changes to your home making you and your family cozy and warm for the season ahead.
Each of us at Design House Interiors has our way of making our space ready for the colder weather that keeps us warm and fuzzy.
veryone can agree that our kitchens are probably the most used
Espace in our homes but they are arguably the most neglected in the
decorating department! While we spend countless hours planning out
the details of function and form with cabinetry, counters, and appliances
and which drawer the silverware will live in we may not always remember
to give our kitchens a seasonal “make-over” Just like a new hair style or
new lipstick can be a pick-me-up for ourselves, our kitchens should bring
the joy of the season into our everyday lives. Here are just a few ideas;
When the chill air hits bring those harvest foods inside - decorate with
bowls of apples or pumpkins on the island or table top. Grab a pretty
copper pot or kettle and fill it with cinnamon sticks, orange peel, and
cloves, and set to simmer to fill the air with spice! Change up the look of
shelves or sideboard with a vase or pitcher filled with branches or bitter-
sweet from your yard. Grab a plaid scarf from your closet and cozy it up
around the pot your favorite mums live in and place it as a centerpiece.
There are countless ways to bring the feel of autumn inside and to the
kitchen we use daily - be creative and have fun!

s there anything cozier than curling up under the covers of a luxurious
Ibed with lush pillows and a down comforter or a flannel blanket? Fall is
here and it’s time to move inside the home after the hot summer nights
turn to crisp breezy ones. This season, add extra warmth to your room
with color, texture and soft bedding. A beautiful headboard upholstered
in a luscious fabric and beautiful custom window dressings add a warm
decorative element to embrace the cool weather ahead.
Your bedroom should be your oasis where you unwind and relax at the
end of the day. Autumn-inspired furnishings can make your space be that
haven you are looking for. Taking color cues from the fall palette such
as warm neutrals, and autumn colors which can be incredibly invigorat-
ing—rich blue, luxe green or warm bronze can create a wonderfully cozy
fall design scheme.
And of course, the best way to heighten the senses is to light candles...
Glowing candles set the mood and the scents of autumn can soothe the
chaos of the day away. Find that space to sit with a comfy throw, grab a
great book, and your favorite warm beverage. You’ll find yourself spend-
ing more time in this newly transformed space, ready to take on the sea-

here’s a crisp in the air, it’s dark out at 6:00pm and all the family sit-
Tcoms are back on at prime time... it’s fall, which means it’s time to
come in from the cold and fluff your nest! For me, the transition begins in
the family room where an extra layer of comfort is added. The transition
begins from the ground up as we love to layer rugs. The addition of a
faux hide or a warm wool rug layered over your summer sisal looks warm
and feels good. Next, bring on the pillows! Ditch your summer lights for
oversized pillows in cozy textures like fur or velvet and oversized throws
in a chunky knit or soft fleece to keep your tootsies warm. Add an extra
layer to the window with drapes hung over your roman shades or wood
blinds to keep out those unwanted drafts. Continue layering with the ad-
dition of candles, birch logs or a toasty fire in the fireplace. Baskets with
your favorite magazines next to your most cozy chair gives you a reason
to stay in and get inspired for the holidays ahead. Lastly, keep the spirit
of summer alive, bring your large outdoor potted plants in for the season
and breathe easy, summer is only 9 short months away!
